M8.2, Newest Camera from LEICA

Thursday, February 5, 2009 8:24 PM

Are there any doubts that Leica has fully embraced the digital world, think again. Successor to the m8 rangefinder with a software update as: M8.2. This, of course, because the original m8 is in beta, but in each name.

Great news about the 8.2: It gets automatically mode. This seems ridiculous as in 2008, the M Series was never really the program exposure mode. Like other full automatic mode, the camera choose the shutter speed, shutter speed, ISO and white balance. Also there is exposure compensation mode: Press the shutter button halfway and use the command to adjust up or down in 1.3 stop increments.

Leica have a complaint addressed m8 users with this update. First, the on / off switch (with the previous easy to fall in the last position - the timer). Imagine using a camera designed for photographers and image that has been lost because of changes crept in and began a countdown from 10 seconds. Becomes more positive click stops.

Viewfinder is another complaint. The M series cameras use "brightline" frame to display the viewfinder image that is already taken. Problems with the lens this plant growing in m8 not accurate, but has also improved.

The shutter is a metal M8.2, Leica, but said that has left more relaxed. Metal Shutter Shutter m8 replace cloth that is used in all the rooms that M series so far. Cloth shutter, which is the main reason legendary quiet operation M (the other is the lack of a flip-up mirror). Because the new model does not automatically re-cock shutter, the photographer can choose the time wisely to do so (while coughing, perhaps).

LCD a welcome addition: a sapphire glass front. This is the initial resistance to the same material found in high-end watches (a phone and sticky). Coverage shows that the Leica is still committed to creating a camera that will last for many years. M8.2, which is in addition m8, and not a substitute for, and can upgrade their bodies m8 owners who already have a few new features. Leica has not said that, even if we assume that all the above will be available. The two may not upgrade the black logo on a black model, a more sober version of the famous Leica red dot, and vulcanized "easy grip" finish, which goes some way to reduce the shortage of finger-grip.

Price? Please sit down first. The body will cost £ 4000. Converted to about $ 7200, although there is a possibility that the official U.S. price will be reduced. If you want to trade your old m8, Leica will give £ 400 ($ 720, or 10 percent) for the same.

Most interesting of all is that no information about the new Leica models mentioned electronic. Both the press release or the product page tells us, for example, how many pixels that. The answer is 10.8. M8.2 uses the exact same sensor in m8, a 10.3 megapixel CCD sensor in a 18 × 27 mm. But since most of the complaints focused on the user's body, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
