Canon 500D

Monday, April 6, 2009 7:47 AM

Canon recently announced the 15.1 megapixel EOS 500D, also known as Rebel T1i in the U.S. market. The new digital SLR this is a response to the Nikon D90 - is the high-end consumer models that shoot HD video. This is also the second digital SLR from Nikon to Canon's HD efforts.

500D to shoot a full 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), but not so in only 20 frames per second. Drop to 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) and provide a better 30fps. This compares with the Nikon D90 up to 720p to 24fps (the same speed as camera film based on the film). The Nikon, but note that shitty movement JPEG format. Displayed on the 500D. Mov in the H.264 codec. Another nice touch is the ability to use automatically, while, despite only getting to use the slower contrast detection system in live view mode.

Yes, the 500D has live view, because almost all of this camera that appears. Frame mode (this is a digital SLR after all) also has some nice details. Like most of which is called automatically by Canon Creative, and is essentially an easy way to adjust the camera settings while taking care to leave weight lifting. Still camera in automatic mode, the user can choose between the English-language options, such as "Dark / light" or "Background Blur" to personalize the image. For starters, not from the manual on the camera bottom, this is the best way to learn without the mess of things.

If not, there is little that stands out, will not be good "film speed". 500D which appears to ISO 3200 in normal mode with two additional emergency 6400 and 12800. Remaining specifications are good, but not surprising - 3 ", 920,000 pixel LCD, 95% coverage viewfinder, HDMI-out, self-cleaning sensor, face detection. The APS-C sensor to measure the size of 30 mm diagonal, which is smaller than the entire frame sensor , but there are many more small improvements pocket cameras' sensors.

500D price of only $ 800 for the body and $ 900 in a kit with the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. That is, if you wonder, if the negotiations. Available in May.

Alpha A900 DSLR, Pro Style Digital Camera from Sony

Friday, February 13, 2009 10:50 AM

Sony come out swinging for the fence with the ship's digital SLR, the A900. Billed as prosumer Digi-pistol, but is packed with a variety of professional-style features a memory card from the split 24-megapixel image sensor is complete, clear high definition LCD, onboard image stabilization and the $ 3000 price [body only], this can provide much more expensive, highest end Canons and Nikons a solid performance for your money.

Take some notes from the Minolta heritage and trickled down through previous alpha cameras, Sony planted many key and the "multi-selector" joystick on the back of the body-menu-digging-necessary adjustments. Layout, while a bit visually daunting at first (especially when the battery grip attached), which is intuitive and fun, once mastered makes on-the-fly changes to all the main parameters to take pictures easily. Others nod their ancestors is a Minolta A900's viewfinder. Proboscis Rome as the top of the body, the viewfinder offers 100 percent coverage of the intelligent and easily from any camera on the market today.

In addition to stand-another-of-the-many of the features that Sony is dependent on the sensor image stabilization system. The first of the type in the full frame sensor, engineers must do so more quickly and more strong to overcome the stress and the size of sensor. And from our brief test, it worked. Comparison of images, the Steady Shot added three stops from both the shutter speed range. While the stabilization system is very slow shutter images that incited little disappointed with noise in low light in the range above ISO 3200. But honestly, it is difficult to beat the Nikon high ISO, low noise game right now.

View life is, of course, all-the-rage, "me too" the role of late. Well, Sony has flip-ho on the A900 in favor of something called intelligent face. Pressing the depth of field, the camera needs a "preview" and display the image on the LCD screen so you can adjust the white balance, dynamic range and exposure parameters to get what you want when you 're ready to go shutter. It's actually a very useful feature when you have time to write and create images, and prevent you from burning a lot of memory on the bracketing.

Sony has been our $ 3K, seriously sharpshooting Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 lens to test with the A900. This strong, more than two-pounder made the A900 a heavy burden on the one hand, and make the amount that does not work for the common, the zoom, too. Zeiss Focus ring is smooth, light and precise, but the zoom ring is significantly more rigid and one-day value of the rotation from one end of the barrel of a range of back and easily replace the training session.

Putting the addition of the screen to display the image on the role of the A900 truly an impressive camera. It is the ease of use that will undoubtedly appeal to the aspiring amateur, along with industry-leading features that exceed the expectations completely, and at this price, can cause some professional shooters to step aside for the Sony way.

Strong = bright living room screen. Excellent on the camera image stabilization system. Not easy to setting the menu button with Fn and multi-selector switch. High homicide rates, high performance, easy to use DSLR.

Weak= focus points is not big enough and bright light conditions. No latch for the memory card. Useless stamp-sized LCD on the body. N hold ISO display. Power switch on the left side of the body.

Canon 5D Mark II,Impressive Sports HD Video with 21 Mp

Monday, January 26, 2009 12:20 PM

Once in a great while, and then out of a very extraordinary, not only blows the original out of the water, he stood alone as an example of excellence. Cases in point: The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2: Day of Resurrection, and Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.

Adding Canon 5D Mark II that list. For almost a year, rumors abound about the upgrade to Canon's prosumer full-frame camera, the 5D, but no one expected the awesome Canon finally the bomb fell on us. Not only to upgrade, the Canon 5D Mark II is a milestone in many ways, and one of the camera, but we've tested. Mass-produce a 21 megapixel sensor, full high definition video, a giant screen and much more, setting a new high-water mark for digital single-lens reflex camera.

For starters, Canon is almost twice the resolution of 12 megapixel 5D. Like the predecessor, full-frame sensor on the 5D Mark II with the same size 35 mm negative film, so much larger than the sensors used in most consumer and prosumer cameras. Size provides two benefits: It gives the camera low light sensitivity perplexing, because for each sensor pixel is larger, allowing them to collect more photons. And allows you to use all of Canon's EF lenses on the line to their full potential, without enlargement - an especially useful benefit for the various angles. By contrast, smaller sensor effectively multiply the focal length of standard lenses, for example, to convert a 28mm lens with a 56mm lens.

Canon is also filled with full HD video recording in 5D2, so that only the second SLR to record in HD (after the impressive Nikon's D90) and the only one to record full 1080p glory. You can notify the Canon did not think this feature will get a lot of play by how deeply they are buried in the menu system. Fortunately the 5D2 is also equipped with the special view of life, the pre-weapons film camera to record.

Indie film photographer and 5D2 have been drooling over since the video quality from Vincent Laforet's film press demo net in September. Most provide a video camera to see the film-is not clear because of the poor depth of field produced by their smaller sensor and lens. Thanks to the full frame sensor and Canon's high-quality lenses, a video from 5D2 look more like film shot in the film.

5D2 is only slightly bigger than the 5D and stay around the same line and see its predecessor. Notable changes, including weather-resistant construction and difficult-looking "parkerized" finish usually found on military firearms. New 3-inch, 640x480 pixel screen looks great even in bright light and is ideal to zoom in close on your check.

Great image quality, even at ISO 1600 and 3200, but in 6400, 12,800 and 25,600 images of the results is quite noisy. ISO 100 in the resolution of pictures is quite stunning.

There are some problems with 5D2, particularly the mysterious appearance of black dots that appear when a noise-reduction, the highlight-tone priority and optimization, all enabled. Disabling this setting repair problems. Since all these features can then reset your computer during the process, which is not a big loss.

Video mode is limited to 4GB per shot, which equate to 20-30 minutes of recording time. And unless you plan to make a silent film, in the investment plans in some external microphone: built in microphone and low-quality monophonic, and can take the lens' autofocus noise, messing up the audio track. Thankfully 5D2 has stereo input mic for recording high-quality audio.

The 5D Mark II is a game changing 21 megapixel 1080p photographers dream. Its Flaws some very extraordinary outweighed by the new features and sensor size.

But good luck getting one. Requested at the beginning of the teaser displays stunning video quality that 5D Mark II is capable of producing, pro photographers and shutterbugs alike pistol up as soon as the camera becomes available in early December. Unless you pre-ordered a long time ago, you're out of luck until later in the year 2009.

Wired Kick ass 21-megapixel, full-frame sensor. Full HD 1080p video. Weatherproof enclosure. VGA-resolution LCD screen. Sexy parkerized finish.

Good luck getting a stale if you do not pre-order. Annoying black spots with certain settings. Super noisy at high ISO range. Movies 4GB size limit.

Canon EOS 1000D

Tuesday, January 20, 2009 10:37 PM

While compacts are by no agency the Billy-no-mates of the camera world, it’s account DSLRs that are the resurgent market. This is mainly acknowledgment to outrageously bargain offerings such as Sony’s DSLR-A200K, Nikon’s D60 and, of course, Canon’s 450D.

While the closing has ensured that Canon charcoal baron of the DSLR pool, it’s not comatose on its acclaim – appropriately the accession of alike added acceptable amount model, the 1000D.

Stripped bottomward 450D

Essentially the 1000D feels like a stripped-down 450D rather than a pumped up 400D. What you lose over the 450D is a brace of megapixels, atom metering, some connected cutting speed, and bisected an inch of the LCD size.

What you still accept is alarming angel quality, with accomplished tonal range, astute colours and actual low babble levels at aerial ISO.

The beam shots are the best in class, autofocus is fast and accurate, and Live View is a advantageous addition. The alone fly in them balm is the hardly capricious auto white balance, which doesn’t like domiciliary bulbs.

Body double

The anatomy is abundant the aforementioned as the 450D’s, which agency that, while it doesn’t feel rugged, it’s ablaze and adequate to hold. It additionally takes the aforementioned alternative vertical anchor as the 450D, which is capital if you’re austere about portraiture, but adds some bulk.

If you’re dispatch up from a high-end compact, you’ll be abashed to see the bald 2.5in LCD, but DSLRs are about framing with the optical viewfinder. Nevertheless, it’s ablaze and bright, and the advice affectation is superb – abashment it doesn’t circle for account shots like the one on the Nikon D60, though.

The controls accept been aimed deeply at the enthusiast, so you shouldn’t outgrow them. Having committed buttons for white balance, acknowledgment advantage and ISO makes it accessible to be creative. The ISO ambience is now apparent in the viewfinder, which is a footfall up from the 400D too.

Going Live

In fact, the better change from the 400D is the Live View mode, which lets you use the LCD for framing, as you would on a compact. Like the 450D, it defaults to chiral focus, and it’s best adored for still activity shots. If you absolutely charge accept autofocus with your Live View, booty a attending at an Olympus.

Finally, the kit lens is the aforementioned 18-55mm IS archetypal supplied with the 450D. It’s angel stabilised, with a fast, quiet motor. It’s additionally ablaze and compact, added so than the VR lens kit with the Nikon D60.

So what you accept in the 1000D is an awfully acceptable amount DSLR that has no absolute weakness. Despite annealed antagonism from the brand of the Nikon D60 and Olympus E-420, it puts Canon appropriate aback at the top of the account pile.
